Alternator
Tools & Parts:
SHOP Alternator
-Alternator/ Bosch remanu from BMW OEM only
-Pliers
-Screwdriver
-3/8 driver ratchet
-12mm,13mm, 16mm, 17mm sockets
-Torx50 socket
-6mm allen bit socket
-Shop towels
This is a good time to also do:

Step1:
Disconnect the positive terminal from your battery
Step2:
Remove front air duct and air intake muffler unit from car (pics below)
-Lift the plastic cover on the far right of the picture below to expose the 2 10mm bolts to remove the air intake muffler.
-Don't forget to remove the mass air flow sensor before removing the top of the intake housing (intake muffler)
Step3: Remove the belt from the alternator
-Remove the cap from the idler pulley and tensioner pulley with your flat-head screwdriver
-Insert torx50 into the tensioner pulley and firmly pull down by putting pressure clockwise on the pulley.
This relieves the tension from the belt and you can now pull it off of the alternator and out of the way while holding down the tensioner.
Step4: Remove alternator
-Using your 16mm, remove the upper and lower alternator bolts (see pics below for bolt location)
-Using a 6mm allen bit socket, remove the oil hard lines as seen in the picture below. (be sure to have a rag handy, a small amount of oil will come out when removed.
-Using your 17mm socket you can now remove the rear positive terminal.
-The negative terminal on the rear of the alternator is a wire clip. see picture to identify and remove.
-You can now pull your alternator off. It may require you to use your flat-head screw driver to help pry the arm from the lower bolt housing on the car
Be sure to line up the idler pulley correctly when re-installing. There is a guide located in the picture below that should be in place.
