Obviously a newbie here. But NOT new to 3 Series BMWs. I have been servicing and repairing 30s, 36s, and 46s for some 15 years. During that time, only a few times did I deal with automatics, and NO experience with M3 SMG stuff. Never even SAT in an M3 SMG car. BUT ................
My 04 M3 6 speed met its match with a tire wall last summer. It became a donor for an 06 M3 SMG roller that was a track car (not a race car). Needless to say, it was a STEEP learning curve since there is a lack of info compared to manual M3s. Dispensing with all nuts and bolts of the build, I put it together and it works. The car came on wheels, no engine (donor supplied that), and the gearbox was on the floor of the car. It came with a relocation package for the SMG pump assembly but no instructions. After assembling the car and properly servicing the SMG system and calibrating it with an Autel MX808, it runs and drives as it should.
Here is where it gets interesting. The DME is original to the car, but the SMG computer is an actual CSL unit from a late 2002 production Euro M3 CSL SMG car. (The VIN sticker is on the box, and Active Autowerkes has validated the software.) The engine DME has been reflashed to interact properly with the SMG CSL program. I only putted around the neighborhood a few times just to operate the car (pedals, paddles, lever, and buttons). It is now tagged so I took it for a "burn". About 15 minutes into the drive the cog wheel lit up on the cluster. This is where I am having real knowledge problems --- codes.
Using a Snap-On Solus I pulled two codes -- 177 (Safety Concept 2 Clutch) and 178 (Safety Concept 3). Also scanned with an Autel MX808 which showed 0000B1 and 0000B2. Since it's a Chinese scan tool, that may be their own proprietary codes. Here is the dilemma -- I can not find any info on those, or any other SMG specific codes.
So -----
1) Can anyone point me to an M3 SMG code list?
2) Can anyone help me with these two codes?
To help with the #2, I replaced detent springs in the gearbox, the flywheel is a lightweight solid flywheel and the clutch kit is heavier duty package with a sprung clutch disc. As far as I can tell, the gearbox continued to shift properly.
Ask anything you like. I need help !!
